'Wishes' by Tenasha Simpson

Wishes

There once was a girl who lived her life for people she tried to impress,

The same group of people who laughed at her

were the people who oppressed.

Antagonistic, manipulative, sadistic, and “superior”,

Whose moral obligation was to make her feel inferior.

She wished there was a solution for the pain that was afflicted,

So one evening a fairy came and granted her 3 wishes.

The first night, for her first wish, she wanted beautiful hair.

She woke up the next morning and saw no difference had appeared.

The second night, for her second wish she asked for a lighter weight.

The next day her eyes were transfixed to the scale

because not one number has been displaced.

On the third night, for her final wish, she remembered

how she always faces rejection,

so she thought she would be accepted with a better skin complexion.

She woke up the next morning anticipating for transformation,

but now she saw in the mirror the exact same pigmentation.

The young girl cried her eyes out pleading for the fairy to form her change,

She wondered why she woke up looking exactly the same.

The fairy then told her, ‘ All your wishes came true,

because the beautiful hair, weight and skin were already bestowed upon you.
